IUI treatment in Goa

Written and medically reviewed by Dr. Mayur Pai, MBBS, MS (OBG) — last reviewed 2026-07-27

IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a simple fertility treatment in which washed, prepared sperm is placed directly inside the womb at the time an egg is released. It takes a few minutes, needs no anaesthesia, and you go home the same day. Heartbeats IVF offers IUI at all four of its Goa locations — Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco — so for most couples the whole treatment happens at the clinic nearest home.

Every month begins with a small, careful hope, and every month it ends the same way — a test, a line that does not appear, a day you get through as if nothing happened.

What you want is a plan: something sensible to try first, without being pushed straight into the biggest treatment. For many couples in Goa, IUI is that first step.

What is IUI?

Intrauterine insemination means placing sperm inside the uterus (the womb). Naturally, sperm must travel all the way up to the fallopian tube where the egg waits, and most are lost. In IUI, sperm washing in our laboratory separates the healthiest, most active sperm from the fluid around them, and that sample goes straight into the uterus through a fine, soft tube.

Timing matters as much as the procedure. Scans follow your cycle so insemination happens just as the egg is released (ovulation). Tablets or injections are sometimes used to help the ovary ripen an egg.

They can also ripen more than one egg, and more than one egg can mean more than one baby. That is the main risk of these medicines. A twin pregnancy is not a bonus: it raises the chance of the babies arriving too early, of your blood pressure rising, and of time in newborn intensive care. Watching for this is part of why we scan through the cycle, and if too many eggs are ripening we cancel the insemination that month rather than accept the risk. Being asked to stop is that care working, not failing you.

Who IUI suits

IUI needs at least one open fallopian tube and a reasonable washed sperm count. We check both first.

When IUI is not the right choice

We would rather be honest than take a booking. IUI is the wrong treatment when:

If any of these apply, we say so at the first consultation. Putting you through cycles that were never likely to work is not kindness.

What happens on the day

Then comes the two-week wait, honestly the hardest part. We tell you exactly when to test; testing early only causes heartbreak.

IUI cost in Goa

IUI costs much less than a full IVF cycle: no egg collection, no anaesthesia, no embryo culture. Medication varies most between people, so we give a written estimate before you start — see our page on what an IVF or IUI bill is actually made of.

IUI treatment in Goa at Heartbeats IVF

IUI is one treatment that stays near home

Worth saying plainly, because the letters IVF frighten people into assuming the whole apparatus is coming for them. IUI needs no theatre, no anaesthesia and no embryology laboratory, so it is done at whichever clinic you attend — Panjim, Margao, Mapusa or Vasco. The monitoring scans that go with it are at the same clinic. Many couples conceive at this stage and never see the inside of the hospital.

If IUI turns out not to be the answer, the step after it does need our laboratory and theatre at Pai Hospital, Vaddem, Vasco-da-Gama. On those days we send a car for you, free of cost, from your clinic to the hospital and back. Two days in an IVF cycle, not a fortnight of driving.

Call or WhatsApp 095185 02773 for the exact address of your clinic and the days Dr. Pai sits there.

Frequently asked questions about IUI

Is IUI painful?

For most women, no. It feels like a routine internal examination, sometimes with a mild period-like cramp. No anaesthesia is needed and you go home the same day.

Can IUI give twins?

It can, if the tablets or injections ripen more than one egg. Twins are not a bonus: early delivery, raised blood pressure and newborn intensive care all become more likely. So we scan through the cycle, and cancel that month if too many eggs are ripening.

How much does IUI cost in Goa?

Much less than IVF: no egg collection, anaesthesia or embryo culture. The total depends mainly on the medication your cycle needs, so we give a written estimate.

How many IUI cycles before moving to IVF?

Only a small number of well-timed cycles are usually worth doing. If those fail, repeating IUI rarely changes anything, and we will say honestly when IVF is better.

Can I have IUI if one fallopian tube is blocked?

Often yes, if the other tube is open and healthy and the washed sperm count is reasonable. If both tubes are blocked, IUI cannot work and IVF is correct.

Do I need bed rest after IUI?

No. Rest briefly at the clinic, then carry on normally. Prolonged bed rest has not been shown to improve the chance of pregnancy, and it makes the waiting harder.

Where can I get IUI treatment in Goa?

At any of the four Heartbeats locations: Panjim, Margao, Mapusa or Vasco. IUI needs no theatre, so it is done at the clinic nearest you. Call or WhatsApp 095185 02773 to book with Dr. Mayur Pai.

Will I have to travel to Vasco for IUI?

No. IUI and its monitoring scans are done at your own clinic. The hospital at Vasco is needed only if you move on to IVF or need surgery, and on those days a car is sent for you at no cost.

Your visit is confidential — nothing about you appears on this website or on social media.
