IVF and fertility treatment in Goa
Heartbeats IVF is the fertility practice of Dr. Mayur Pai, MBBS, MS (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), in practice 15 years, and it has four locations in Goa. Panjim, Margao and Mapusa are consultation-and-scan clinics: counselling, follicle monitoring, ovulation induction, IUI, semen analysis and medicines. The IVF laboratory and the operating theatre are at Pai Hospital, Vaddem, Vasco-da-Gama. On the two days a cycle actually needs them, we send a car for you, free of cost.
Some months you are almost sure. You count the days, you test early, then test again because the first one must have been wrong. It isn't wrong.
Then there is everything around it — the question at the family function, the friend's photo you scroll past, the 2 a.m. thought that this is somehow your fault. It isn't. Trouble conceiving is a medical problem, and it often has a reason that tests can find.
Four places in Goa, and a car when you need one
Fertility treatment is not one appointment. It is a scan every second or third day for a fortnight, injections at fixed times, and blood tests in between. Whether that is bearable has less to do with the medicine than with how far you have to drive for it.
So the practice is arranged this way. Your consultations, scans and injections happen at the clinic nearest your home. Only two days in a whole IVF cycle genuinely need an embryology laboratory — the day the eggs are collected and the day the embryo is put back. On those two days we send a car for you, free of cost, from your clinic to the hospital at Vasco and home again afterwards.
The cars are on the road for a blunt reason. Dr. Pai was losing patients who could manage the treatment but not the travelling — women who would have been treated if getting there had been easier. A treatment you cannot reach is not a treatment.
And when you arrive, your eggs are handled in our own laboratory, inside our own hospital, by our own embryologist, in a theatre nobody has to book from anyone. Most small clinics do not own a laboratory at all. That is usually why they would rather you did not ask where yours would be going.

Heartbeats IVF is led by Dr. Mayur Pai — MBBS, MS (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), IVF specialist and laparoscopic surgeon, in practice 15 years. Three doctors are on board, so a routine scan is never lost because one man is in theatre. The laboratory at Vasco does full IVF including ICSI, and we use 100% disposables.
What we treat
IVF and ICSI
IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) means egg and sperm are brought together in our laboratory and the embryo is placed back into the womb. ICSI means a single sperm is injected directly into an egg — used when sperm count or quality is low.
IUI
IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a simpler, less expensive step: prepared sperm is placed into the womb at the right moment in your cycle. It needs no theatre, so it is done at your own clinic. It suits some couples and not others, and we will tell you which.
Male infertility and micro-TESE
A fertility problem lies with the husband as often as with the wife, so we test both of you. No sperm in the semen is not automatically the end — we offer micro-TESE, a search for sperm inside the testis under an operating microscope, which many centres cannot offer.
PCOS
PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is a common hormone condition in which eggs are not released regularly, so periods become irregular or stop. It often responds well: weight and lifestyle work first, then tablets, injections or IVF if those are not enough. Nearly all of it is clinic work, near your home.
High-risk pregnancy care
A pregnancy that took years to achieve deserves close watching. We look after pregnancies affected by diabetes, blood pressure, twins, previous losses or age, right through to delivery.
Why choose a Goa clinic
Large national chains have many centres. We do not compete on scale. The honest differences:
- We are local, in four places. Scans every few days are easy when the clinic is a short drive from home — Panjim, Margao, Mapusa or Vasco. And the one long journey in the whole cycle is the journey we drive for you.
- Our own laboratory, our own theatre. Your eggs do not leave the building and your operation is not squeezed onto somebody else's list. A clinic without a laboratory has to send your eggs to a company you never chose.
- One named doctor. Your treatment is led by Dr. Pai, who does the consultations, scans and procedures himself, so you are not passed from one person to the next.
- OHSS prevention is a policy here. OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) is a serious complication of fertility injections — the ovaries over-respond and the woman can become genuinely ill. Our practice is built around not causing it: careful dosing, close scanning, and a willingness to freeze embryos or cancel a cycle. A cycle postponed is not a cycle lost.
- We do not oversell. If a simpler treatment is likely to work, we will say so. If your chances are poor, we will say that too. We will not quote a figure to get you through the door, and we will not promise you a baby — nobody honestly can.

Questions couples ask us
Which is the best IVF centre in Goa?
No honest clinic can call itself the best. Ask who will actually treat you, whether the centre owns the laboratory your eggs will go to, and how it prevents OHSS. At Heartbeats IVF, Dr. Pai treats you himself and the laboratory is our own.
Do the Panjim, Margao and Mapusa clinics also do IVF?
No, and we would rather you read that here than discover it on the morning you are told to travel. Those three are consultation-and-scan clinics: consultations, follicle monitoring, ovulation induction, IUI, semen analysis and medicines. The laboratory and the operating theatre are at Pai Hospital, Vasco. On the two days a cycle needs them, we send a car for you at no cost.
Is the car to Vasco really free?
Yes. The hospital runs its own vehicles and there is no charge for the journey. Tell us your date on WhatsApp and the pick-up is arranged with it. Egg collection is done under light anaesthesia, so being driven home is the sensible way to travel in any case.
How much does IVF cost in Goa?
It depends on which treatment you need, the medicines involved, and whether embryos are frozen. Ask us for an itemised estimate before anything starts, and we will say when a simpler, cheaper treatment is worth trying first. See our page on IVF cost for what the bill is actually made of.
Do I need IVF, or will IUI work for me?
It depends on your age, whether your tubes are open, and your partner's semen report. IUI suits some couples; for blocked tubes or very low sperm counts, IVF or ICSI is the honest answer.
My husband's semen report says zero sperm. Is a baby still possible?
Sometimes, yes. Zero sperm in the semen does not always mean zero sperm in the testis. Micro-TESE searches testicular tissue under an operating microscope; if sperm are found, they can be used for ICSI. Whether they are found depends on the cause.
Can I get pregnant if I have PCOS?
PCOS makes conceiving harder, but it does not mean you cannot conceive. Treatment usually begins with weight and lifestyle changes and tablets to help release an egg, moving to injections or IVF only if those do not work.
Do I have to go to Mumbai or Bangalore for IVF?
No. IVF, ICSI, IUI and micro-TESE are all done here in Goa. Your monitoring is done at the clinic near your home, and the laboratory work at our hospital in Vasco, which we drive you to.
